Minneapolis Northwest hosts a number of entertaining events and festivals featuring music, art and family fun that are worth planning your next trip around. Many of the festivals highlight a wide variety of cultures so you can experience and learn about new music, dance and foods from all around the world.  

TWIN CITIES WORLD REFUGEE DAY

Experience Twin Cities World Refugee Day, a remarkable celebration of diversity, art, culture, family, good food, and so much more. In partnership with the City of Brooklyn Center, the event brings communities together to recognize and uplift the diverse gifts that refugees bring to Minnesota. Event-goers enjoy free live entertainment, food and vendors from around the world, children’s activities, a community resource fair, and interactive educational displays. Sunday, June 11,11–5 p.m., Centennial Park, 6301 Shingle Creek Parkway, Brooklyn Center.

New this year is the TCWRD 5K! Lace up your running/walking/jogging shoes for this kid-friendly event that supports refugee friends and neighbors. You can also turn your steps/strides into tangible resources by fundraising individually or as a team!

The Twin Cities World Refugee Day is presented by CAPI USA, a local immigrant-led nonprofit that does amazing work connecting community members with food resources, housing assistance, education and other resources.

Centennial Park is Brooklyn Center's great outdoor gathering space. Located on the grounds is an amphitheater, beautiful nature vistas and a peaceful fountain. Travel back in time at Historic Eidem Farm in Brooklyn Park. See what it was like living on a farm during the 1890s, get a tour of the grounds from costumed guides, and participate in a craft. This year the live music is back. Adult happy hour events are in the planning stages for later in the summer.

Did you know that 1 in 5 residents of Brooklyn Park was born outside of the U.S.? Come celebrate the area's cultural roots at IgboFest. IgboFest showcases cultural activities with a full day of free family fun, drawing more than 5,000 adults and kids to the area. Activities include tasting traditional African dishes and trying your hand at African crafts, enjoying a variety of dance performances and processions, and chances to win raffle prizes.

Welcome the return of summer! Meet some neighbors. Enjoy the trails and park in the Trinity Garden neighborhood.

Saturday, June 8 from 9-11 a.m. in the Trinity Gardens Neighborhood in Brooklyn Park. This is a non-competitive, family-friendly neighborhood walk and play event.

  • 1- and 2-mile marked circular route
  • Join in at any point along the route and at any time between 9 and 11 a.m.
  • Accessible for strollers, wagons and wheelchairs
  • Walk at your own pace
  • Bring your dogs, kids, neighbors and guests

THE WORLD BALLET FESTIVAL

The World Ballet Festival 2024 will be taking place at the Pantages Theatre this June. See ballet stars from the American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, Boston Ballet, Los Angeles Ballet, and World Ballet Company, as well as local companies’ presentations, such as Ballet Minnesota and Ballet Royale Minnesota, performing on one stage. Running June 7-9.
